Otterruu DiitricU.—The queation ie frequent ly canvawsed; What should thone in the Distriotn overrun by the enemy do—abandon their homes, or stand their ground? The question is one of practical importance, both tiublicly and individu ally. We have no hesitation in exprestting the opinion, that it will be better, on every account, for all, not connected with the army, to abide the invasion at their homes They may be plundered and insulted, and subjected to many trials of tem per^ but they can do more gpod to the Cause by remaining at home, in the rtar and in the midst of the enemy, than by encumbering our army by their useless presence. They //luy lose all their property by staying; but that they will certainly do by tiying. Remaining at home, in the midst of the enemy, they will constitute a source of con stant uneasiness to the enemy; and when the re treat begins—as begin it will, as sure as there is a just God in Heaven—they will be in position to strike a deadly blow. Rising up upon the flying scoundrels, they will be able to increase a thou sand fold the horrors and disasters of the rout. As to taking the oath to the Yankee Govern ment, that no man of loyalty and honor would df. He would sooner see the whole Yankee race at the bottom of the bottomless pit. But it is no impeachment of his truth and fidelity, being a *• non-combatant, if he abide the invader at his own door. If he indeed continue true to fche Cause, and watch opportunities to aid the Cause, he may render it invaluable aid, and be in position to in sure its triumph.—Richmond Whig. A Boy to be Fraud of.—Our call for shot guns was responded to yesterday by Master W'm. Fred erick Blois, a lad some six years of age, who en tered our office with a fine double-barrel on hit shoulder, inquiring for “the editor,*' with a leal that showad his heart was iu the cause. “Here’s a gun for you to shoot the Yankees with,'’ was his exclamation on learning that he had found the individual sought, “But, sonny,” we re marked, “hadn’t you rather keep it to shoot robins with'"’ “No, sir,” he replied; “kill the Yankees first, and then shoot the robins.” Master William i'rederick will do for a patriot, and he has our thanks for his self-denying lib erality.—>5>avannah Republican. Corn.—An intelligent Arkansas correspondent of the Southern Cultivator says: “If you have plenty of corn, you have everythin^:” So we repeat, again and again: Plant corn early—plant late—plant hill-side and bottom—plant hammocL and sandy land, and prairie, that your garners may be tilled to overflowing, and that there may be plenty iu all the landl—Charleston Courier.
